What is ASL?

American Sign Language (ASL) is a visual and gestural form of communication developed in the beginning of the 20th century at the American School for the Deaf.

Why Learn ASL?

American Sign Language isn't just for the Deaf community. It is a way to communicate visually in any situation where verbal communication breaks down. For example, trying to communicate with someone across a room or in a noisy setting can be made much easier with some basic knowledge of ASL. Additionally, many parents teach simple signs to thier babies so they can communicate before the infant's spoken language has developed.
